Guwahati, August 26, 2019:

Assam is all set to have a 'super cop' as the next Director General of Police (DGP), according to reports. The 'top cop' position in Assam will go to former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) member, Tapan Deka, 1988 IPS batch, who was the IB national head of counter-terrorism.

Tapan Deka was also a 'top spy' of India in Washington DC, the capital city of United States of America. A Himachal cadre officer now posted in Assam as JD(IB), he handled ULFA cases between 1993-2001.

Deka maintains a 'low profile' and it is hard to even find pictures of him on search engine site Google. Only a side photo of Tapan Deka receiving presidential medals exists at the moment.

The 'super cop' will take over as the DGP of Assam after the retirement of current DGP Kuladhar Saikia.

The 'super cop', who cleared the UPSC exams in a single attempt, also cracked the 2008 serial blast case of Guwahati. Deka will retire on 2023.
