Assam minister Jayanta Malla Baruah labels alcohol as a luxury item amid rising prices

Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah was present at the BJP's joining ceremony at Rabindra Bhawan in Bongaigaon city today.

Amid the fervor of the rally, Barua addressed several pressing issues, including the potential escalation of alcohol prices in Assam. Expressing the BJP's stance on liquor consumption, Barua emphasized the party's commitment to creating an alcohol-free Assam, distinguishing between indigenous liquor and luxury alcohol.

"Alcohol is a luxury which is consumed by rich people. It is not a necessity. Nobody drinks alcohol to survive life rather than drinks for luxury. We want alcohol free Assam. Traditional alcohol is not affected by the price rise, those indigenous drinks are prepared at home to maintain our tradition", Barua comments on the price of Alcohol in Assam.

In a departure from the party's traditional rhetoric, Barua took aim at political rivals stating, “Akhil Gogoi wants Gaurav Gogoi to lose. Because he lives in the world of dreams. He dreams of becoming the chief minister himself”.

He reiterated the BJP's dedication to national interests, advocating for inclusivity while drawing a firm line against individuals with pro-Pakistan sentiments. He stated that Congress is in a critical condition now.

“Our party is a party dedicated to the nation. Hindu Muslims can all come. Those people who love Pakistan cannot come into our team”, he further remarks.

He held Rakibul Hussain accountable for the decline of Assam's self-respect, citing the significant killings during Hussain's tenure as forest minister. Barua emphasized that even if Hussain doesn't take responsibility, the people of Assam will hold him accountable.

"Bhupen Bora will join the BJP in a few days.  The leaders who once raised their voice against the BJP have joined the BJP today. Bhupen Bora will also join the BJP soon.", says Barua. He confidently predicted a landslide victory for the BJP alliance candidate in the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat, although he remained unsure about the backers behind the candidate.

“We welcome all those who have come from different parties to join the BJP. I am hopeful they will strengthen our party. This will help us in the upcoming election”, says Jayanta Malla Barua.
