In a major crackdown on fuel smuggling, Bijni police conducted a raid at Kashdoba market in Chirang district and seized 15 drums filled with smuggled diesel from a vehicle.
The operation led to the interception of a Xylo car (registration number AS-01AL-5320) that was transporting illicit fuel from Doturi in Bijni towards Bhandara.
The driver, identified as Hafizul Mondal (32), and his accomplice Shafiqul Islam (35)—both residents of Bijni—were arrested by police from Bijni Police Station.
Authorities suspect the fuel smuggling racket has a wider network, and further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the illegal trade.

The seizure highlights the police's continued efforts to curb fuel smuggling in the region.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has introduced stringent documentation requirements for the transportation of Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) within the state to curb illegal diesel transport and tax evasion.
As per the Assam VAT Act, transporters must now produce a Road Permit in Form-62, an invoice, a consignment note, and a transporter’s manifesto to ensure transparency and prevent revenue losses.
The move comes as part of a broader crackdown on fuel smuggling, with authorities intensifying vigilance, joint operations, and stricter enforcement measures across border districts and key transit points.
