The Abhayapuri police on September 16 have apprehended one individual involved in a massive fraud case concerning the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAC). The accused, identified as Pankaj Das from Bijni in Chirang district, was arrested for his alleged role in embezzling funds through fake work orders amounting to Rs 100 crore. This fraudulent activity involved the forgery of signatures and seals of the KAC principal secretary.
The KAC principal secretary, Dhruvajyoti Das, had previously lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Abhayapuri police station regarding this incident. Subsequently, the Abhayapuri police initiated an investigation based on the FIR and successfully apprehended one of the individuals involved in this financial scam. However, one of the accused remains absconding.
The accused individuals are suspected of issuing fake work orders to entities located outside the state, resulting in significant financial losses. Abhayapuri police have registered a case under section 420/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code and are diligently investigating the entire incident.
Biswajit Ray, secretary of the Koch-Rajbanshi National Forum, expressed deep concern over the situation. He emphasized the crucial role played by the Kamatapur Autonomous Council in the region's development.
Ray noted that recent reports in various media outlets have shed light on the mismanagement of funds allocated for the council's development.
