Congress MLA Rakibuddin Ahmed has announced a major infrastructure proposal to construct a riverside road along the Brahmaputra, linking Nagarbera to Guwahati through Sonatoli and Goraimari.
Describing it as a long-awaited communication corridor for char and riverbank communities, Ahmed said the project would significantly ease travel difficulties and improve socio-economic opportunities for the region’s population.
Addressing residents at Malibari Pathar under the newly formed Chamaria Assembly constituency on Friday night, the MLA assured that construction work on the proposed route would begin after the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
He noted that improved connectivity has remained a persistent demand from people in the riverine stretch, where transportation challenges often disrupt daily life and access to essential services.
Ahmed made the announcement while attending the second annual session of Al-Beruni Model School at Malibari Pathar. Reiterating his commitment to uplift the char areas, he said that strengthening road links along the Brahmaputra would not only reduce travel time but also support education, healthcare access, and economic activities for thousands of residents who rely heavily on river-based transport.
