Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Deputy Leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi visited Ledo Tikak Colliery in Margherita on November 10 evening to assess the challenges and potential of the region’s public sector industries under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency.
During his visit, Gogoi held discussions with Coal India Limited (CIL) – North East Coalfields General Manager K. Mere, MP Dutta, and other key officials to understand the operational concerns and developmental prospects of the coal sector in the region. The interaction focused on local employment, production issues, and the socio-economic impact of coal mining on surrounding communities.
The Assam Congress chief was accompanied by Margherita Block Congress President and several party officials who briefed him about the grassroots concerns faced by workers and residents in the mining belt. Following the official meeting, Gogoi also interacted with individuals from Ledo and Borgolai, engaging with citizens to hear their perspectives on livelihood and regional development.
With Assembly elections approaching in the coming months, Gogoi’s visit is being viewed as a strategic step towards revitalizing the Congress organization in Upper Assam, particularly in constituencies where industrial and labour issues remain politically significant. His outreach, observers note, could play a key role in strengthening the party’s ground-level presence and reconnecting with core voter bases in the industrial heartland.
