"Ready to go to jail" ABSU president challenges claim of union's involvement in BTCLA vandalism

All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) president Dipen Boro, on December 2, vehemently denied allegations made by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary linking the student body to the vandalism at the BTCLA office on November 29. 

Addressing reporters at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, Boro called the claims “unfortunate, baseless and damaging” at a time he described as crucial for Assam’s tribal communities.

Mohilary had earlier alleged that a group of tribal students from Bodoland University carried out the vandalism and suggested ABSU’s involvement. Responding firmly, Boro said ABSU has always championed non-violent democratic movements and would “never think of attacking anyone.”

He rejected Mohilary’s claim that ABSU sought to attack him, reiterating that the organisation’s history and principles stand firmly against any form of violence. “ABSU has never supported or instigated violence. If there is any evidence that proves otherwise, I will resign from ABSU and I am ready to go to jail,” he declared.

Boro further said it was disappointing that Mohilary, a tribal leader and key figure behind the formation of the Sixth Schedule Bodoland Territorial Council, should make such allegations instead of supporting the community during challenging times.

The ABSU president urged leaders to stand united and avoid statements that could create further divisions within tribal society.
