In a heartening wildlife rescue effort, three bear cubs were rescued from the Lamaran area in West Karbi Anglong district of Assam after being found alone in the wild.
According to officials, a local farmer discovered the three orphaned cubs while heading to his jhum cultivation field. Realising that the cubs were vulnerable, he safely rescued them and handed them over to forest authorities.
The cubs are currently under the care of the Kheroni Forest Department, also known as the Southern Forest Range, where officials are providing them with medical attention and proper food.
A forest department official said teams are monitoring the area to trace the movements of the mother bear, which may have been separated from the cubs. Authorities plan to release the cubs back into the forest once the situation is assessed and conditions are considered safe.
Forest officials said the rescue highlights growing awareness among local communities in wildlife-rich areas of Assam and the importance of cooperation in protecting animals and preventing human–wildlife conflict. Residents have also been urged to inform forest authorities immediately if they come across distressed or orphaned wild animals to ensure timely conservation efforts.
