Arunachal: APU dismisses AdiSU’s charge

The Pashighat-based Apex Professional University (APU) has refuted the allegation of Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) that it had violated various UGC norms.

Describing the charge as “wrong, misleading and done with an ulterior motive to harass the APU”, the university clarified that the allegation of zero endowment funds was totally different as till date the FDR of Rs.3 crore pledged to Government of Arunachal Pradesh was neither withdrawn nor cancelled by the sponsoring body of the APU.

“We challenge the Adi Students’ Union to prove that APU does not have an endowment fund as per Apex Professional University Act 2012. This allegation is levelled with an intention to defame the university and achieve their hidden motives. The allegation of zero infrastructure and non-qualified teaching staff is also false as we have got the approval from the Council of Architecture and Bar Council of India after the inspection of the varsity infrastructure and qualifications of teaching staff,” the APU registrar said.

The AdiSU president Nang had said, “As per UGC norms, a university usually has single and multi-domain in which Rs.5 crore and Rs.8 crore respectively are to be kept as endowment funds in a nationalized bank in the home branch where the university operates. But initially APU had maintained only Rs.3 crore endowment funds in Punjab National Bank at Amritsar, Punjab which was later withdrawn violating the norms”.

The AdiSU met Education Minister, Honchun Ngandam, on Saturday at Itanagar and appealed to the government to interfere in the matter.

When contacted, Tatdo Borang, Additional Deputy Commissioner (HQ), Chairman, APU credential Fact Finding Committee, said the report of the findings would be submitted to Deputy Commissioner, Pasighat on Monday or Tuesday next.
