State Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore at New Delhi on 6th June and discussed the initiatives to boost sporting activities and creation of sports infrastructure in the State.

Stating that football is the most popular sport in the State, the Governor requested the Union Minister for opening of four football clubs in Tirap, Lohit, West Siang and Papum Pare districts.

He underscored that youths of the Northeast in general and Arunachal Pradesh in particular are exceptionally talented and naturally gifted in a variety of sports, saying they have impressive records in the field of sports.

The Governor informed the Union Minister of recent successes in mountaineering, including recent successful scaling of Mount Everest by three of our Arunachalees including Muri Linggi, and other sports events like badminton, martial art, etc.The Governor said that despite lack of any sports infrastructure, the youths of the region have performed exceedingly well. He emphasized on harnessing the raw sporting talents in a more scientific manner by providing in situ training with best infrastructure to our talented youth.

The Governor also met the Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Culture, Dr Mahesh Sharma on the same day and discussed about the strengthening of the vibrant cultural assets of the State. The Governor requested the Union Minister for opening of five state-of-the-art Music Academies in Arunachal Pradesh – one each at Itanagar, Tawang, Aalo, Pasighat and Changlang. He also requested the Minister for promotion of literary, visual and performing arts in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Governor also called for creating cultural awareness of the State at national and international levels, while pointing that the multi-ethnic State boasts of 26 major and 106 minor tribes with each having distinct cultural heritage and traditions.

The Governor, who has toured the entire State from Tawang in the west to Longding district in the east, said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh have a very high creative quotient along with the other States of the region. Imbibed with high creativity, the youths of the State have excelled in the different fields of arts and music, including performing arts, he stated.

While emphasizing for a visible and concrete action to nurture and showcase the naturally gifted creativity at the national and international platform, the Governor asked for a speedy time bound programme for the opening of the Music Clubs in the State.

The Union Minister assured the Governor of his help and said that the proposals will be studied with due care for taking it forward in the best possible way.
