ARUNACHAL PRADESH: KHANDU’S CLAIM OF BJP WINNING ALL 60 SEATS IN 2019pema khandu

Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s reported statement on the BJP winning all 60 assembly seats in the 2019 polls has apparently created a political quiver among the opposition parties of the State.

Khandu, while addressing a public meeting at Geku in Upper Siang on May 30 last had stated that “the State BJP will have no pre-poll alliance with any party and is confident of winning all 60 seats in the 2019 assembly polls”.

Couple of days after the Congress had reacted to the CM’s statement, the Opposition PPA (People’s Party of Arunachal) on Saturday linked Khandu’s claim with ‘faulty’ EVMs in the wake of alleged malfunctioning of electronic voting machines in recently held by-polls in Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh.

While claiming that it got to know during its visit to Yupia that around 20 out of 300 EVMs with the DEO office “have been rejected because of faults”, PPA president Kahfa Bengia, while questioning the reliability of EVMs, said: “Not only CM Khandu, some BJP ministers from other states are making similar claims.

At a time when the whole nation is dissatisfied with the BJP-led NDA Govt over unfulfilled promises (like 15 lakh rupees to every Indian’s bank account, 2 crore jobs per year, smart cities, etc) and rising prices of petrol and diesel, the practice of making such grand claims by BJP ministers is a worrying trend and it shows that there must be some strong reason for their overconfident claims.”
