A 16-year-old boy died in a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Rage Hilli, a resident of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, died as he got buried under the mud with his bike and the debris fell on him.

The victim and his friend were travelling from Dokum Colony, Itanagar to Rono Hill, RGU for the boxing selection trial.

The deceased, who was riding the bike, was a profound boxer and wanted to serve in the Indian Army. A car was also damaged in the incident and its driver sustained minor injuries.

Following the incident, Papum Pure district police launched an investigation and registered a case under section 172 of the IPC. The body of the deceased has been handed over to his family members after legal formalities.

The road is currently blocked and the district administration is working to clear it.

"We urge the citizens to be extra cautious while travelling to their respective districts as heavy and torrential rain is causing landslides in many places."  said IAS officer, Talo Potom, Itanagar,

He also requested the citizens of landslide prone areas to avail facilities of temporary relief shelters made by the district administration and shift there on a temporary basis if they feel their houses are not safe during heavy rains.

The Deputy Commissioner also blamed the soil conditions of the capital and said the loose soil of Itanagar is prone to landslides and, due to illegal earth cutting, it becomes more vulnerable. He said that he has banned all earth cutting by individuals for the last one year and urged citizens to use helpline numbers provided by the administration in any case of emergency.
