Hailakandi, March 30, 2020:

The Hailakandi District Police has strictly enforced the lockdown across the district by taking against the violators. Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath disclosed that 17 persons have been arrested and 31 vehicles seized including 18 vehicles in the past 24 hours for violation of the lockdown. Police have registered two cases. Total fine realised from the detained persons since lockdown is Rs 7,000.

"Lockdown has been strictly enforced under all the six Police Station jurisdictions. Vehicular movement is restricted except the exempted categories. The situation is by and large peaceful," said Nath.
The district administration ensured supply of vegetables by providing passes to 25 hawkers to facilitate door-to-door delivery.
Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Dr.AR Ahmed said, "The hawkers are making door-to-door delivery of vegetables. Information on availability of vegetables is being shared with the hawkers. Besides movement pass for 25 hawkers, another 108 hawkers identified by our department will be issued passes by the district administration shortly."
Retail shops selling groceries and essential food items remained open from 9 am to 3 pm with distancing and hygiene adhered to. Essential services functioned smoothly.
Mid Day Meal dry rations are being distributed by school management committees to parents and guardians in various blocks across the district while maintaining social distancing and hygiene. The district administration has directed the wholesale and retail groceries to prominently display the stock position of essentials along with prices. It cancelled the retail licence of a fair price shop agent under Matijuri Goan Panchayat Samabai Samiti Limited for gross anomalies. Meanwhile, religious leaders and people's representatives appealed to the people not to step out of their homes and to extend full cooperation to the state government and the district administration to thwart the Coronavirus menace.
Katlicherra MLA, Suzamuddin Laskar who has been put under home quarantine said, "I am now under 14-day home quarantine following my visit to Hyderabad. I am feeling quite well. I appeal to the people to adhere to the lockdown guidelines of the state government and the district administration and to remain indoors to stay safe and healthy." Hailakandi, MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar, too, made an impassioned plea to the people to listen to the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Hon'ble Chief Minister's appeal to remain indoors and to boost the morale of the frontline workers and officials who are in the field battling against Coronavirus.
As per the district bulletin on COVID-19, 1,370 persons are put under home quarantine with 31 more quarantined on Monday.
