The collective consciousness of Assam screamed in agony after Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the implementation of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill at a mass gathering at Silchar on Friday.
The situation turned chaotic in both the valleys in Assam and Barak just after the Modi-Led BJP government along with the ‘Jatiya Nayak’ Sarbananda Sonowal accepted the confirmation of the amendment of the bill.
Reacting to the situation, 70 organizations of Assam altogether joined hands to protest against the Bill.
The general secretary of All Assam Students Union (AASU) Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, while announcing a two-day bandh on 9th of January stated that “The Modi-led BJP government has back-stabbed the people of Assam and has done a horrifying conspiracy with the emotions of Axomiyas”.
Further, he said that the Prime Minister paid no attention to the democratic struggle of the Assamese people. The martyrs of Assam were slighted in ignoring the Assam Accord. The MPs and Ministers of Assam supported and cheered the decision of the PM and insulted the martyrs of the state. “Therefore we request the people of Assam to join hands to save the Jati”, he added.
