GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has lodged a complaint with the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) alleging "police atrocities" on protesters at Tezpur on January 22.
"We met the AHRC chairman today and filed the complaint along with photo and videographic evidences of police atrocities. We've demanded a high level inquiry into the incident and punishment to the guilty," said AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah in an official communique.
The AASU has alleged that its peaceful protesters were brutally assaulted by policemen at Tezpur when they took out a torch rally on January 22, as part of an agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and demanding withdrawal of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020 notification.
