With the aim to alleviate poverty and empowering women, additional revolving funds were ceremonially distributed to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Hailakandi and Lala municipal areas.
Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli handed over the cheques for Rs.15,000 each to the SHGs falling under the jurisdiction of Hailakandi and Lala municipal areas at a function held at her office conference hall in the presence of a large number of officials.
The additional revolving funds to SHGs have been made under Kanaklata scheme under the aegis of Assam State Urban Livelihood Mission Society (DAY-NULM).

While addressing the groups, Keerthi Jalli urged the women SHGs to work hard to make themselves self-reliant and independent and to carve out a niche for themselves among the SHGs in the State. She asked the women SHGs to focus on small or micro enterprises and on waste management to make themselves economically vibrant and resilient and to make a real difference in the living conditions of women as a whole in the district.
Earlier, Executive Officer of Hailakandi Municipal Board, Prodip Timung urged the SHGs to make all-out efforts towards alleviation of poverty.
Executive Officer of Lala Town Committee, Jyotirmoy Daimary, Vice Chairman of Hailakandi Municipal Board, Niyoti Banerjee and Manager, Urban, Mustafa Ahmed Laskar were present on the occasion.
The event was organized by the City Mission Management Unit, Hailakandi.
