Guwahati, December 2, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Monday has alleged that the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has capitulated completely in front of the Central Government.

KMSS stated that the AGP party's interests differ from that of the indigenous 'sons of the soil'. The KMSS leader also stated that the party did not oppose the contentious Bill during a recent meeting with Union Minister Amit Shah, and instead, brought up some issues of lesser importance.

The peasant leader also let off some steam at the Assam Sahitya Sabha, which, he alleges, has not spoken about the people of Assam, and alleged that the Sabha only implored Shah not to 'harm' the Assamese language.

Although Amit Shah has said that the Bill will not harm the ILP, and 6th Schedule areas, Gogoi said that the areas which are not under any protection in Assam, will be badly affected.

Gogoi further alleged that the Bill is an attempt by the Centre to ensure that the people of the region do not speak out against the rulers, by filling the lands with 20 lakh Hindu Bangladeshis. The Bill will open the doors to 1.7 crore Bangladeshi Hindus to become permanent citizens, Gogoi further pointed out.

Adding that the Constitution of India cannot safeguard the state from the perils of the Bill, Gogoi said, "If the Bill is enacted, the Assamese people will never survive."
