APW to move SC over Lower Subansiri Big Dam issue

Guwahati, November 19, 2018:

The Assam Public Works (APW) will move the Supreme Court in order to challenge the judgment of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) over the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project (LSHP) issue.

The NGT in a hearing over the issue termed 3-member Constitution Committee as valid.

However, APW chief Abhijit Sharma objected the validity of two members of the committee and have decided to move to the Supreme Court.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoE&F)  consitituted the committee comprising of Dr Prabhas Pande, PM Scott and Dr ID Gupta.

Abhijit Sharma said that they objected the issue as two members, Gupta and Scott were from the Government's side and both were part of the decision making team which supported the construction of the dam.
