Guwahati, December 28, 2019:

In the latest display of resentment against the ruling BJP regime, members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Saturday waved black flags at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Stating that the CAA would not be accepted at any cost, the protesters waved black flags at the passing convoy of the Assam Chief Minister, even as security personnel surrounded the group to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

Sonowal was reportedly headed to Tulsibari, when protesters confronted the convoy at Rangia Tiniali at a memorial site constructed for martyrs, by the members of the AASU.

In a similar incident, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been the most vocal supporter of the CAA in Assam's echelons of power, was also confronted by protesters during a visit to Tezpur. Biswa Sarma, who had gone to Goroimari to pay condolences to departed BJP MLA Rajen Borthakur, reportedly had to fly from Tezpur Airport to Goroimari, a distance of mere 5 kms, in a bid to evade the protests.
