In an interesting move, Asom Gana Parishad president and state Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora announced to withdraw from the state cabinet if National Register of Citizens(NRC) updation is not coherent with the Assam Accord. This was stated by the Minister in a press meet addressed at the AGP office in Ambari today. The press conference was organized by the party to convey regards and wishes to the people of Assam at the onset of the Rongali Bihu. Bora made the party’s stand clear of opposition against the inclusion of Hindu Bangladeshis in the NRC. He stated that the party will fight for the correct identification and deportation of illegal immigrants from Assam. The party announced to take every possible step to maintain the integrity of the state
The minister also spoke on the on going controversy of expansion of Assam Cabinet. AGP with 14 MLA has two representatives in the same cabinet. Rumours were doing the round for quiet some time that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would expand the cabinet by introducing eight new faces. With a hope of the much awaited expansion to take place soon, AGP sought two ministerial berths in the state cabinet
Keshav Mahanta, Minister of water resources and transport presided over the meeting. He stated that AGP, a regional party which was made by the people will forever strive to work for the betterment of the people
