GUWAHATI: Assam NGO Anfar Foundation which yesterday came under the scanner after allegations of receiving massive funding from a group linked to extremists has refuted the allegations.

Refuting the allegations of the Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) that it had taken sums to the tune, Anfar Foundation's General Secretary Fakhrul Islam stated that the allegations are not based on truth. He further stated that the news that was publicized yesterday based on the LRO report is "proof-less and confusing."
It further added that it had received "only" Rs. 1,47,60,012 from IRW in the years 2104, '15', and '16. It stated that the Government of India has records of all the grants that it has received from the organization.
Anfar Foundation in its statement further stated that all the funding that it has received has been tracked by the Centre all the records are with the Union Ministry.

It further stated that the organization that it is currently engaged in social works such as free education and health services for the economically weaker sections, aid for those affected by floods and landslides, re-settling those driven homeless by calamities, economic help for the unemployed and weaker sections are some of the works that have been undertaken and all the records are with the concerned Government departments.
Turning down heavily against the LRO, the Anfar Foundation further added that it is providing stipends for widows and helping orphans with monthly monetary help are some of its prerogatives.
It "condemned" what it claimed to be "malicious" attempts to malign its image. It also stated that the IRW, which is banned in countries such as Bangladesh for its links to shady organizations, has also done beneficial works for people suffering from misfortunes across the world.
"Till now, developmental works undertaken by the IRW are being undertaken in many states across India," the Anfar Foundation's communique further pointed out, adding that it has received funds under the scrutiny of the Union Home Ministry.
