Guwahati (Assam), September 6, 2018:

Suspended Assam BJP leader Meera Borthakur on Thursday appealed to the party’s state president Ranjit Das to reconsider her suspension.

Borthakur suspected that she was suspended for backing the demand of people that the Bangladeshi immigrants, irrespective of communities who entered Assam after March 24, 1971, should be detected and deported in deference to Assam Accord.

The position of BJP’s central leadership is that the non-Muslim immigrants should be given asylum, if not citizenship, in India on the ground that they had fled Bangladesh in the face of religious persecution.

Borthakur said she had received the message of her suspension from BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia on WhatsApp. She urged the state president to take disciplinary action against Saikia.

“According to BJP Constitution, no one can suspend a party worker without any legal process. I asked the party to stand by the Assam Accord but it stood up against me. Suspension is a long term procedure and I will not consider any WhatsApp message from Dilip Saikia. Everything must go through a process or else I am ready to take legal action against such activities of party members,” Borthakur said.
