Dispur: Nitin Khade, the chief election commissioner of Assam has urged all sections of media to adhere to the Election Commission of India's ban on exit polls and to "comply with it in letter and spirit."
The ECI, under the provision of Sub-Section (1) of Section 126A of the Representation of People Act, 1951 having regard to the provisions of Sub-Section-(2) of the said Section, had notified the period between 7:00 am on March 27 to 7:30 pm on April 29 as the period wherein conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicizing by means of the print or electronic media to the Assam Legislative Assembly-2021, has been prohibited.

"As such, the CEO, Assam once again urges all concerned to scrupulously adhere to the guidelines of ECI in the period mentioned above in the interest of smooth completion of the election process in the state of Assam," Khade wrote in a communique.
The 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election was the 15th quinquennial legislative assembly election held in the Indian state of Assam from March 27 to April 6. Counting of votes will be held on May 2.
