GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a video conference call on Friday with Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, DTOs, Superintendents of Excise of all districts from his office took a serious note on drink and drive cases in the city.
During a video conference meet in Janata Bhawan, Assam CM asked all officials to put spanner on drink and drive phenomenon.
During interaction with the functionaries, Sarma categorically asked the DCs and SPs to put adequate restrictions on the roads to avert ‘drink and drive’ phenomenon experienced especially on festive season like new year eve and on new year days.
He further asked the DCs to undertake visits to district Civil Hospitals and Medical College Hospitals especially on the night of December 31 and ensure availability of doctors and immediate medical intervention to the victims of road accidents.
Moreover, the Joint Directors of Health Services are advised to make ambulances ready to meet any exigency.
He said, “People should enjoy the festive season. But this enjoyment should not exceed any accepted parameter. Every life is valuable and in the name of enjoyment, the valuable human life should not be lost”. He, therefore, urged upon the motorists to avoid drink and drive.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also asked the DCs and SPs to deploy police and SDRF personnel at the picnic spots which are adjacent to the rivers to avert any drowning cases.
He also asked them to generate adequate awareness through publicity to avoid any kind of rush driving that may be undertaken under the influences of alcohol.
Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, Principal Secretaries of different departments were present during the conference.
