ASSAM CM TALKS TOUGH ON PEOPLE MAKING PROVOCATIVE STATEMENTS

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday stated that stern action will be taken against all, including media, who are found to be involved in spreading inflamatory statements and hate messages.

Talking to the mediapersons, Sonowal said that the killings are an aftermath of provocative, inflamatory statements and hate messages made by various organisations, parties, people's representatives, media and social media.

He said, "I want everybody to restain themselves or else the government will have no alternative but to take strict action in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the state."

"We will take strongest action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime. I have directed all law enforcing agencies to maintain peace and take stern action against anybody trying to destabilise our peaceful society and state," said Sonowal.

Sonowal added, "Everyone is safe in Assam and the government will take all possible steps to ensure peace in the state."

It may be mentioned that five persons belonging to a particular community were gunned down on Thursday by unidentified miscreants near Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Tinsukia district of Assam. Though it was initially suspected to be the handiwork of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), the banned organization denied having any link with the incident.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested ULFA pro talks leader Mrinal Hazarika for making provocative statements recently which they believe might have led to the incident.

It may be mentioned that Mrinal Hazarika had recently said that they would resort to massacre to stop the Bengali organizations pressing for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

There had been wide scale outrage of the provocative comments of Hazarika.

He was summoned earlier in the day for questioning at the Panbazar Police Station and was arrested in the afternoon. The police is yet to make an official statement as on what ground the pro talks leader has been arrested but reports claim that the leader has been arrested for making communal statements.
