Assam: Congress MLA Sashi Kanta Das pledges support to BJP-led government

GUWAHATI: Congress lawmaker Sashi Kanta Das has pledged support for the Assam government in another jolt to the grand old party in the Northeast Indian state. He is expected to shortly join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing the press, Das said within a short span, Biswa Sarma has been able to bring communities in the state together and also given a rapid boost to development.

Sarma has assured all help for Raha, Das added.

"Therefore, I have decided to support the government,” Das said.

Although he said that he has still not taken a decision on joining the BJP, he said that he will support the government for the sake of the development of his constituency.

Sarma said, "Moved by PM Modi's vision of development, Congress MLA Sashi Kanta Das has pledged his commitment to support Assam Govt politically. This is exemplary and will strengthen governance."

However, pundits believe that Das will soon join the saffron party.
