Silchar, April 18, 2020:

Sajibur Rahman, a COVID-19 patient from Assam, has become the latest to be discharged from hospital after three consecutive tests which were reported as negative. Rahman was being treated at the Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in Karimganj district. With his release, the total number of patients cured in the State has risen to 12.

Assam's Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who oversaw the release of the patient, informed that he is being sent for home quarantine. After both his test reports from Guwahati and Dibrugarh came out as negative and chest x-rays showed no signs of pneumonia, he has been released today, Sarma said.

Meanwhile, another Covid-19 positive patient Mohammad Jamal Uddin of Srigouri of Karimganj district in SMCH needs more monitoring and observation as he suffers from cancer and high pressure, Sarma further informed.

Earlier today, two more patients, namely Mohammad Arshad and Mohammad Rizuwan were discharged from the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) after their 4 successive tests came as negative. As many as nine patients were released up until yesterday.

Earlier, 2 from Sonapur District Hospital and 3 from Goalpara Civil Hospital were released as they had tested COVID19 negative. The state has so far reported a single death due to complications from the virus.

Meanwhile, despite Government talks of lessening the restrictions post April 20, cases of the COVID-19 are still being registered in the state, and the tally of positive cases has now risen to 34.

It may be mentioned here that the two latest positive cases are both from Morigaon district, and the Government has said that they are the secondary contacts of the Tablighi Jamaat attendees.

It is pertinent to mention here that Northeast India has also reported many cases of the virus. The tally is as follows:

Assam: 34

Meghalaya: 10

Mizoram: 1

Manipur: 2

Nagaland: 1

Tripura: 2

Arunachal Pradesh: 1

Alert in Morigaon:
