Former Chief Minister of Assam and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta did not cast his vote on Thursday as a mark of protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
To support the AGP leader, his family members, including his wife and son, also did not cast their vote. Mahanta’s daughter, who cast her vote for the first time yesterday, is the only one in the family to cast vote yesterday.
Addressing the media at Nogaon, Mahanta said that the BJP is keen to amend the Citizenship Bill if they are voted into power, and thus, to protest this, he did not cast his vote.
He also made an appeal to the people to protest and stand against the Bill in the coming days.
