d packed fish imported from Andhra Pradesh will be banned for the next ten days after traces of formalin presence in imported fishes. Following the reports, seizure of huge quantity of fish products with formalin traces in the markets of Guwahati and different parts of Assam was found during the last investigations. Subsequently fish samples were reportedly collected from different fish outlets in the state which later were found to have traces of formalin.
With Assam being one of the most fish-consuming state we are trying our best to solve the problem, stated Pijush Hazarika.
It can be noted that according to the food safety and standard act 2006,anyone found selling imported fishes with formalin traces will be punished with an imprisonment of two till seven years, added with a fine of Rupees ten lakhs.
