Assam Tourism Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on Tuesday announced that a two-day long program is has been scheduled in the State to celebrate the World Tourism Day in Guwahati, on September 27.
Baruah also informed that since India is the proud host of the global celebration this year, Assam being one of the largest tourist hubs of India is also fully prepared to celebrate the grand occasion.
The event will be flagged off in the morning with a cycling event from the Dighali Pukhuri to make people aware of responsible tourism. The main event of the world tourism day celebration will be organized at the Shrimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium (Kalakshetra) from 1 pm. All key dignitaries, including the Assam CM, are expected to be present there.

With a view to promoting Assamese culture, traditions and tourist destination, the tourism department, govt of Assam has also organized a photography competition, a short film competition, and a writing competition.
"We are very glad to inform that a huge number of people have joined the competitions and the awards of these competitions will be distributed on the 27th of September", Baruah informed.
The Government of Assam has also organized an open quiz competition and a skit competition on 27th September at the same venue, where only the students pursuing tourism courses can participate. The winners of these competitions will also be awarded on the same day.
The Raas Mahotsav of Majuli and Nalbari will be specially focused on this season and the logos of the Raas Mahotsav will be unveiled on this occasion, the Government has decided.
The Tourism Department of Assam has also initiated a project called "Amar Alohi", under which 28 home-stays were built for the tourists and also to generate employment. This project was completed in record time and the home-stays will be released officially for the tourists on World Tourism Day.
