The death toll of deadly vector-borne disease Japanese Encephalitis has climbed to 78 in Assam.
As per the latest updates, two cases of Japanese Encephalitis death have been reported from Dibrugarh and Barpeta districts of Assam.
The two deceased have been identified as Upen Chandra Gohain, (who was undergoing treatment in Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh) and Liyakat Ali (70) from Barpeta, (who was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital).
As of July 14, 2019, a total of 26 cases of AES/JE was registered out of which five deaths have been recorded. Also, five cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported out of which two have been reported dead.
Moreover, as many as 1350 cases of AES/JE cases were registered in all, out of which 177 deaths were reported.

On the other hand, 348 cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported, out of which 76 have been reported dead which has now increased to 78.
It may be mentioned that the treatment and diagnostic cost at Medical Colleges and District Hospitals are being borne by the State.
A certain number of beds in all the ICU and wards have been reserved for patients with JE/AES in all district hospitals and Medical Colleges.
