Kokrajhar, July 23, 2019:

The floods have returned to wreak havoc in Kokrajhar district of Assam. Rains have returned with a renewed vengeance, causing water-logging and flash-floods across the district.

Moreover, latest footage reveals that flood waters have entered the private residences of the dwellers of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas, causing great distress to the local residents.

While speaking to Inside Northeast, a resident of Kokrajhar town said: "All areas like Fakiragram, Gossaigaon, etc. are under the impact of floods. Over 300 families have taken shelter at the Fakiragram Railway Station as their houses have been submerged", he said.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, whose Kokrajhar residence is partially submerged under flood waters, told Inside Northeast that water levels are in fact rising in the district. "“No one has been spared by the floods here. All are suffering equally. Waters levels are rising, in fact. The water level might be receding in other areas of Assam, but no such luck in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas”, Daimary laments.

Although the rest of Assam is starting to see mild improvements, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas are seeing a renewed spell of rains. The incessant rains in the town have caused yet another flood-like situation in the State and the locals of Kokrajhar are facing a lot of difficulties due to water-logging and flash floods.
