Former Chief Minister of Assam, Prafulla Kr. Mahanta came out all guns blazing against the ruling BJP-led Government in the State and alleged that his National Security Guard (NSG) cover was withdrawn for opposing the CAA.
The former CM and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader, attacking the ruling party, alleged that his security detail has been downgraded ever since he spoke out against the contentious amendment of the Citizenship Act that was passed in Parliament, recently.
It may be mentioned here that Mahanta was given NSG cover after a failed assassination attempt.
Mahanta, who was placed at the helm of the AGP after the signing of the 'Assam Accord' and ruled as CM for two terms, lamented that his National Security Guard (NSG) has been withdrawn for opposing CAA.
It has come to be known that the old brigade of the AGP, comprising Mahanta and former Assam Minister Brindavan Goswami, and the newer brigade, are at loggerheads with each other.
In the same press conference, Mahanta has also alleged that the current President of the AGP, Atul Bora, and his cohorts, are slowly eroding the presence and influence of Mahanta from the party. "They say I am the Adviser...even I don't know what kind of an adviser I am."
