Assam Public Works (APW), an NGO that was one of the original petitioners of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), has now lodged an FIR against the former NRC coordinator at the CID Office in Guwahati and have urged the DIG to register a case against Hajela for allegedly "tampering" with the records.

"[...]request you to kindly register a case under provisions of law against Sri Prateek Hajela (the then State Coordinator, NRC, Assam) for tempering the valuable public records, i.e. NRC Final List of Assam and other appropriate provisions of law and also to conduct a further enquiry for his involvement in cybercrime in the whole process of NRC, Assam and thereby oblige", the APW wrote in a joint statement to

Abhijit Sarma, the leader of the APW has, meanwhile, blamed Hajela for the comedy or errors surrounding the Assam NRC that recently saw the website running a blank. "Cloud service that expired in October last has not been renewed by Hajela, and thus people were not check the records today. Meanwhile, 795 cr rupees has already been taken by Wipro. The Home Ministry is saying that the data will be restored, well and good. The new NRC coordinator must ensure that all proper actions are undertaken to ensure that the process is carried out as per the dictum of the Supreme Court", Sharma told Inside Northeast.

"The Govt is vocal only on television and newspapers, but not they must now take action as well. Thus, we implore the Government authorities to take action against the corrupt practices of Prateek Hajela", Sharma further opined.
It may be mentioned here that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in respect of Assam was initiated by taking the base of a Writ Petition which was filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India by APW bearing Writ Petition (C) No. 274/2009 [Assam Public Works -Vs- The Union of India & Ors.]
