Assam Sangrami Manch working president Adip Phukan said, “Different organizations have been protesting against the Citizenship Bill and privatization of the NRL but it’s high time that we need to unite and protest together.”
“The Central Government has announced to bring in the Citizenship Bill in the winter session of the Lok Sabha as now they have the majority. Only after that it will implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which is a clear indication that this government is trying to include the Hindu Bangladeshis in the NRC through the Citizenship Bill,” he added.
Adip Phukan further mentioned that in a Supreme Court’s order issued in 2003, it was clearly mentioned that NRL which is a profit making institution cannot be privatized.
It may be mentioned that the centre has announced to privatize NRL and BPCL.
