DHUBRI: A snake charmer has been apprehended by the Dhubri division of the Assam forest department with help of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and a case been registered against the accused.
The operation was conducted covertly near the judicial court of Dhubri. It was led by Shahbaz Sultan, forester of Check Station Dhubri. His team jointly with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) volunteered to nab the charmer.
During the raid, Haidar Ali, 45, a resident of Ahjitmore, Jhaleralga, Gauripur was nabbed by the forest team and they siezed 3 rare Indian Rat snakes (Ptyas mucosa), a huge amount of pharmaceutical drugs, along with a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration AS-17E-4813.
The man was produced before the court, citing a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the snakes were released at its nearest habitat.
He was later sent to judicial custody at Dhubri jail.
