Guwahati, October 16, 2019:

Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is all set to roll out 15 'Environment-Friendly' electric buses from October 30 in its first phase.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, ASTC Managing Director, Anand Prakash Tiwari said, "Assam State Transport Corporation will flag off 15 buses on October 30. This will be the first consignment of Electronic Vehicles and subsequently, more EVs will be added. The aim is to make the environment pollution free in Guwahati and Assam.”

Tiwari added, “The second consignment of buses will reach Assam three to four months later. The buses will ply from Panbazar to Kamakhya temple route, initially.”

Passengers will have to pay fares similar to what they are paying now. New fares can only be introduced after the fare structure in the state is revised, Tiwari informed.

Recently, the corporation also launched Chalo app for Guwahati empowers commuters. This project includes the introduction of electronic ticketing in ASTC buses with the latest generation of cutting-edge Electronic Ticket Issuing Machines (ETIMs) which can accept all modes of payment, including cards, mobile payments, QR code payments and other forms of digital payments.
