"It is very unfortunate, earlier it was CAB, now it is CAA, it is very bad situation for the tribals in Tripura and elsewhere. If the Government gives citizenship to outsiders, ratio of the sons of the soil will decline", the INPT leader told Inside Northeast over the phone.

The INPT leader further asserted that their party will continue to oppose the CAA. "We have fought against the CAA. We have also sent a memorandum to the Home Minister. It is unfortunate that they saved all States apart from Assam and Tripura, and Assam and Tripura are in trouble because of the CAA."

Expressing hope that the Supreme Court will step in to save the people, the INPT leader stated that the party is awaiting the apex's Court's hearings, as appeals from Assam and Tripura will be heard separately. "We have appealed to the SC, and the apex will hear Assam and Tripura separately. We think that Supreme Court should also think about the states of Assam and Tripura", he added.

Jagadish Debbarma has also lamented that suspected foreigners are availing all facilities that are reserved for genuine citizens. "They are getting everything, voter i-card, ration. It is our opinion that the Government should peruse the 1971, 1965, voter rolls...if they do that, the total foreigners will be found out. We have also demanded an Assam-NRC like undertaking in the State. We submitted petition in 2018, 2 times hearing has been held, and the next hearing shall be on March 18 next", he said.
