GUWAHATI: Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, today slammed Amit Shah and claimed that the people of Assam will not cast their votes based on what Shah says.
"No Assamese person with self-respect will cast his or her vote based on what Shah said," stated Saikia, going on to add that the people would think twice after Shah's "disrespect" towards martyrs.
"What is his identity? What is their contribution towards Assam? They have come here to secure the interests of a businessman class from Gujarat," charged Saikia.

Slamming Shah for claiming that agitations are futile, Saikia stated, "Assam has received much due to agitations -- be it the Saraighat bridge, Bongaigaon Refinery, or the Guwahati Refinery -- all has been granted after Assam raised its voice."
The Congress MLA also claimed that all the projects flagged off by Shah during his visit to Assam are meant to "lure" ahead of the elections.
Claiming that the BJP has "erased" the Assam Accord and diluted its tenets, Saikia claimed that the party has not fulfilled any of its promises.
Reacting to Ajanta Neog's joining the Congress, Saikia said, "A single vote can determine the outcome of the election. It can determins who wins and who loses. Therefore, it cannot be said that the loss will not impact the Congress."
