Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi has been a man on a mission ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his intention to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Akhil, along with leaders of seventy organizations, has been greatly successful in mobilizing the people of Assam against the Bill. And now, after successfully completing a tour of Assam to create awareness about the Bill, he has taken matters to national capital Delhi. But life has been anything but smooth-sailing for protestors of the Bill due to the iron-grip ruling policy of the current administration. Akhil, after speaking out against the Bill and urging the people of Assam to protest against the planned-visit of PM Narendra Modi to Assam at a press meet, was promptly asked to vacate his room at Assam House, where he had been staying!
This treatment of Akhil, who is one of the leading voices against the Bill, shows the Government’s callousness towards the indigenous voices which have risen up against the Bill.
Speaking exclusively to InsideNE, Dhaijya Konwar, General Secretary of the KMSS, said: “We believe he (Gogoi) has been evicted due to his criticism of the Indian Government as he has done no wrong. He has now vacated the premises. This shows the lowly conspiratorial nature of the Government as they have insulted an Assamese (Gogoi) for speaking out against the Bill. This proves that this Government has fascist tendencies.”
