The Bill is dead, the BJP conspiracy is dead: Akhil Gogoi

Guwahati, February 13, 2019:

KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi, who has been one of the prime protagonists in the fight against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, has expressed his happiness after the Bill was not tabled in the current session of the Rajya Sabha.

“We won, the secular nature of Assam has been preserved”, exclaimed an excited Gogoi from the Parliament grounds in New Delhi, where he has been campeing to fight against the Bill. Akhil also expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam who stood alongside him in the struggle against the Bill. Gogoi also thanked the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) for their role in the protests. He also thanked Conrad K Sangma, Meghalaya Chief Minister, for his role lobbying support from opposition parties to vote against the Bill. “Mr. Conrad Sangma, wherever you are, accept the gratitude of Assam”, he said.

“The media has won, the journalists have won. I also want to thank all the opposition parties such as the JD(U), Congress, AGP, Aam Aadmi Party etc for their role in Assam’s new freedom struggle”, Gogoi said, with a tired smile on his face.

“This Bill is dead. It won’t be raised again”, assured Gogoi. He also slammed the current BJP administration and claimed that the “conspiracies” of the BJP are dead and further added that CM Sarbananda Sonowal is a traitor. “Himanta Biswa Sarma is a rotten and evil man”, he added, slamming the Finance Minister who has been one of the fiercest defenders of the Bill.
