Guwahati, March 16, 2019:

Is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) going to lose the 1.5 crores Gorkha votes as MP R P Sarmah resigned?

The sitting Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur constituency, Ram Prasad Sharma, who is also the president of Assam Gorkha Sammelan (AGS) has announced that he would not mobilize the 1.5 crore Gorkhas living in the country for the BJP.

Addressing the media at New Delhi regarding his resignation, the MP R P Sarma said that the country has 1.5 crore population of the Gorkha community and Assam itself possesses a population of nearly 26 lakh Gorkhas and 4.13 lakh alone in Upper Assam. He added, “We, Antarashtriya Nepali Sanskriti Parishad along with AGS and Gorkha Students Union planned to mobilize for the BJP where the Gorkha community has major domination for the 14 to 15 constituencies in the country. We almost moved with our plans in Meerut, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, etc. Delhi itself has a Gorkha community of 12 lakh.”

“Since I was an MP, I tried my best to mobilize for the party but now this I will not do so,” he added.

It may be mentioned that R P Sarmah is one of the seniormost members of the BJP party. He has been working for the party since 1976 as a hardcore RSS member.

Now the question arises is how is the BJP going to win the Lok Sabha battle with such internal clash within the party members? Will the loss of one major community lead to the downfall of the BJP?
