Chabua, December 14, 2019:

In a shocking incident, BJP MLA Binod Hazarika’s house was set on fire by anti-CAB protesters on Friday.

A source told Inside Northeast that a mob of irate protesters gheraoed Hazarika’s residence in the afternoon (at around 1 am), and proceeded to destroy his property. Later, they set the MLA’s house on fire.

It may be mentioned here that earlier, the irate protesters had also vandalized the house of Dibrugarh's BJP MP Rameswar Teli and pelted stones at the house of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The people of Assam continue to be up-in-arms against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which is alleged to be a “betrayal” by the Government as it seemingly favours a sub-section of foreigners over the indigenous Assamese.

It may be mentioned that earlier, Binod Hazarika had openly opposed the proposed bill stating that he will quit his post as an MLA if the bill is passed.

Addressing a gathering during a Bihu function, Hazarika had gone on record stating that he would quit as an MLA if the controversial bill sees the light of the day.
