BJP on the verge of a landslide victory; thumping wins for Himanta, Sonowal, Dass

GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance convenor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongman Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal have registered facile victories from Jalukbari and Majuli constituencies respectively.

While Sarma recorded a win by over 1 lakh votes against Congress man Ramen Ch Borthakur, Sonowal prevailed over Rajib Lochan Pegu of Congress by a margin of 36,573 votes.

On the other hand, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has won from Patacharkuchi constituency by a margin of 41,443 votes.

Assam minister and senior BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary has won from the Dharmapur constituency by a margin of 19,990 votes.

Former Assam minister and Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain has retained the Samaguri constituency by a margin of 25,647 votes.

Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s blue-eyed boy and BJP candidate Taranga Gogoi has won from the Naharkatiya constituency by a margin of 15,059 votes.

BJP candidate Numal Momin has won from the Bokajan constituency by a margin of 17,749 votes while Rupsing Teron of BJP has won from the Baithalangso constituency by a margin of 30,000 votes.

Incumbent Nandita Das of Congress has won from Boko, while Jakir Hussain Sikdar of Congress has won from the Sarukhetri constituency by a margin of 25,449.

BJP’s Manab Deka and Bimal Bora have won from the Lakhimpur and Tingkhong constituencies by a margin of 2500 and 28,000 votes respectively.

BJP candidate Hemanga Thakuria has won from the Palasbari constituency by a margin of 39,912 votes.

Sushanta Borgohain of Congress has won from the Thowra constituency.
