Kokrajhar, July 10, 2019:

Dekhrebo Narzary, the Working President of the Bodoland Janajati Surakhsa Mancha has filed a Petition against the newly elected Kokrajhar MP, Naba Kumar Sarania, in the Gauhati high court.

Narzary has claimed that MP Sarania is not a tribal, stating that he actually belongs to the Sarania community. Moreover, he said that although the Mancha has accepted the people’s mandate in the recently concluded General Elections as believers of democracy, they are unable to digest the victory of Naba Kumar Sarania in Kokrajhar ST reserved parliamentary constituency, as he is not a person belonging to the Schedule Tribe (ST) community.

The Bodoland Janajati Surakhsa Mancha said that the Assam Government had admitted that he belonged to Sarania community which is not recognized as a Schedule Tribe and has obtained an ST certificate by falsely claiming to belong to the Boro-Kachari community by allegedly cheating the certificate issuing authority.

"Boro-Kachari is a recognized Schedule Tribe in plains of Assam, whereas Naba Kumar Sarania belongs to neither Boro-Kachari nor Kachari tribe", he said.

Narzary stated infront of media said: “We do not accept him as the schedule tribe representative in the ST reserved constituency. He is representing the non-boro or non-tribal communities. By his 'anti-tribal' activities, he has clearly exposed that he is not tribal and belongs to the non-boro, non-tribal community."

"Thus his win in a tribal reserved (ST) constituency is not acceptable for BJSM,” he said adding that this time they will go for legal redressal.
