The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AAKRSU), in its convention held at Assam's Udalguri district, has threatened to remove the Hagrama Mohilary-led BTC-Government in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts if they are not allotted with Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by February 13 of this year.
It is to be mentioned that the Koch-Rajbonshis are among the six prominent communities of Assam who have been agitating for scheduled tribe status.

The leaders of AAKRSU expressed their frustration over the issue by chanting slogans such as “BJP- BPF hatao, Koch Rajbongshi bachao”.
The AAKRSU General Secretary, Gokul Barman, has alleged that that government is trying to create a rift among the people in the BTC areas by playing a political game. He said, “We don’t need ST status by creating a rift between the different classes of people. We want political, economic, social and cultural safeguards in BTC. During the last election, Hagrama Mohilary had given us written assurance regarding the same, but he (Hagrama) has been a thorn in our side in recent times.”
The AAKRSU leader has given a deadline of February 13 and stated that in case the Government fails to meet the demands of the organization, the AAKRSU will intensify the protests. He also asked the Koch-Rajbonshi people working in the BJP and BPF to leave the party and fight for the rights of their people.
