Breaking: 2 DNLA Ultras Gunned Down Near Assam-Nagaland Borderultras

Diphu, April 27, 2020:

Two ultras of the Dimasa National Liberation Army ( DNLA) were earlier today killed in an encounter with Assam police and security forces at Mugulbadisa near the Assam-Nagaland Dhansiri border areas, official sources said.

The slain militants have been identified as Rupson Thausen alias Gaddain (aged 32) and Elwin Jigdung alias Albin (aged 31). Both were from Karbi Along district, said Karbi Anglong SP Debojit Deuri.

The police also recovered an AK-56 rifle with two magazines and a M4 rifle with three magazines and mobile phones, added Additional SP Indranil Barua. Meanwhile, search operations are underway in adjoining areas for more cadres of the proscribed outfit.

Earlier this week, in a similar incident, two more cadres of the outfit had been shot dead in Dugoidisa village in Misibailam under the Dhansiri police outpost in Karbi Anglong district.

The two ultras were reportedly killed during crossfiring with police personnel. The slain cadres have been identified as Gadayeng Dimasa alias Rupson Thousan and Elwin Jigdung. They were both residents of Karbi Anglong district. An M-16 and an AK-47 assault rifle have been recovered from the cadres.

Another DNLA cadre, a certain Devlin Hojai of Doyapur, managed to flee from the site, sources said.

It is pertinent to mention here that in January last, Assam Police arrested the militant outfit, Dimasa National Liberation Army’s (DNLA) Chief Minom Phunglosha, also known as Gazaw Dimasa from Karbi Anglong.

Assam Police, after arresting him, took to Twitter and posted, “In a major success, a joint team of @karbianglongpol & @adgpi personnel apprehended Minom Phunglosha alias Gazaw Dimasa, the self-styled Army Chief of DNLA and recovered a pistol from him.”

It may be recalled that the rebel outfit was formed last year ahead of the General Elections.
