Breaking: 8 More Cases of COVID-19 Detected in Assam, Total 13 Infected

Guwahati, April 1, 2020:

Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has just confirmed that the number of cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19 has risen to 13 in Assam. All these new cases are from the testing lab in the Jorhat Medical College.

This announcement has been made hours after an earlier announcement in which he had stated that 4 more cases of the virus had been detected in the State. Notably, the first case of the COVID-19 was detected yesterday when a 52-year-old man from Karimganj was reported as "positive" after a sample testing at the Silchar Medical College. The Minister has also claimed that they had attended the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in New Delhi's South-West.

Tweeting out about this latest development via Twitter, the Finance & Health  "Alert ~ 8 more COVID 19 positive cases in Assam, taking the total to 13. All eight new cases are of people who also participated in Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz."

The names of the COVID-19 positive people are as follows:

Alina Begum, Marangi,

Md. Haider Ali, Marangi,

Yakub Ali, Marapani,

Jasminena Begum,Marapani,

Saleha Begum, Marapani,

Ruma Begum, Marapani,

Anowar Hussain, Dergaon

Wahida Begum, Dergaon

During a presser that he had given earlier in the afternoon, Himanta Biswa Sarma has cautioned the citizens of the State to stay alert and said that soon positive COVID-19 cases will increase from five to a double-digit number. His latest revelation has confirmed the earlier apprehensions.

Addressing a press conference here in Guwahati, Sarma had said, “This number will increase by evening as we are testing more samples. It is almost sure that Assam’s positive cases will rise after the test results are declared.”

The Minister urged all of the ones who have come into direct or indirect contact with the five positive persons, to report to the Government so that the the required screenings and testing is carried out.

Coronavirus Global Figures:

It is pertinent that as many as 877,744 people have been infected by the new coronavirus. 188,647 of the cases have been reported from the United States, with 4,059 deaths so far. Italy, where 105,792 people have been infected has reported the most number of deaths, at 12,428. In Spain 102,136 people have been infected, and 9,053 people have died.

Coronavirus in India Figures:

In India, 1,637 people have been detected as positive so far. 45 of the COVID-19 patients have died due to complications.
