Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Chief Akhil Gogoi has been meeting leaders from different political parties in New Delhi and has been asking for their support to defeat the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Addressing the media from the Parliament grounds, the KMSS Chief said, “We are talking to Communist Party of India (CPI-M), Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Trinamool Congress and we are in touch with the Congress party. Also, we are requesting everyone to support us for the cause. Meanwhile, Biju Janata Dal has given us a green signal and Navin Patnaik has assured Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that he will stand with us against the Bill in Rajya Sabha. So, we are hopeful that everything goes as desired.”
It may be mentioned that the Citizenship Bill has been listed in the 'Legislative Business' list in the Rajya Sabha today.
