Congress President Rahul Gandhi, in a speech delivered in front of a mass gathering at Khanapara in Guwahati, stated that the Congress stood with the people of Assam in their fight against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and added that the Congress blocked its passage in the Rajya Sabha. “The Bill could not be passed because of our strong opposition in the Rajya Sabha”, he said.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the BJP administration is trying to impose the BJP’s governing policy of ‘Hindutva’ in the Northeastern region and stated that their agenda would hamper the cultural and linguistic integrity in the state and in the entire Northeastern region.
“The language of all parts of India is important and if we suppress indigenous identity, we will do a severe injustice to the voices of the small states like Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam”, said the Congress President.
The Congress President further alleged that the BJP wants to rule the country from the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. “The Congress knows how to defeat the BJP and the RSS and we vow to end the BJP rule in the upcoming (Lok Sabha) elections”, Gandhi added.
